Eight years ago
You came here to earth
That was the most beautiful day
The day I gave birth.
Eight years ago
I gave you to your dad and mom
I kissed you goodbye
I tried to stay calm.
I look at the sun today
As I blow you a kiss
Hoping you will receive it
For you I truly miss.
I look at your pictures
As I sit on my bed
I try to stop crying
But the thoughts of you stay in my head.
I write you a birthday letter
A letter of love
God sent you to your parents and me
Sent you from our heaven above.
I then wipe my tears away
I create many smiles
Though we’re apart
My love will always cross the miles.
So today, on your birthday
Please don’t be sad
Because eight years ago
Was the best day I have ever had.
* I wrote this poem on May 13th this year for my eight year old daughter whom I placed with a wonderful family after her birth.
