Letting Go and Holding On

I have let go of you, my baby

But I have to hold on just the same

I have to let go of your firsts

And am holding on to our firsts

I have to let go of the pain

And am holding on to the happiness

I have to let go of the fact I could not raise you

And am holding on to the fact I did it all with one choice

I have to let go of the fact I am no longer your mother

And am holding on to the fact I am your birth mother for life

I have to let go of all the anger, the sadness, the hurt

And replace it with the fact that I have let go

But I am holding on forever
