Success Has a Name

I’ve lost much in order for someone else to gain.
Some call it sacrifice; I call her by name.
A favorable reward is success defined,
And surely the reward is my thriving child.
Though I have given her to a new family,
My job as her firstmother lasts through eternity.
For not only have I deemed her worthy;
Of reward, success, and prosperity,
But I too
will thrive, as any good mother would.
For in my loss I have so much still to gain,
A future that she can be proud of.
Yes, my Success has a name.
It's written in pink on her cake today,
and in my heart, the first word I heard her say,
When she first cried, in my arms,
Before I gave her away, on today,
this marked moment; Her Birth-Day.
